Chicago- The Fisk and Charleston power plants are estimated to have caused 120 million dollars in health damages to the city. 

 

Boston- Evergreen, an electrical company, was given permission to install two power lines East Boston. However, the region's demand for electricity will soon outpace the abilities 

Requiring a new substation to be built, but the area has already been heavily scarred from industrial work.

New York - Large industrial zones known as SMIAs have increased asthma and cancer rates in lower income populations nearby. 

 

Philadelphia- In this sector of Philadelphia, The Pennsylvania Transportation Autorithories funded a combined heating and electricity. This has led to poor air quality and numerous ailments for the residence.

Florida - Sugar cane burning is both outdated and environmentally harmful method of harvesting sugar cane. The harmful impacts of the burning can affect humans when the wind pushes the smoke out to innocent towns. 

 

Seattle- Toxic materials enter important waterways which affects fish. These toxic materials can come from a variety of references, such as tire rubber or furniture. 

 

Kansas City - The city is expected to have a drastic increase in temperatures that will lead to increased droughts and flooding. 

 

San Francisco - Gentrification is pushing the lower class into heavily polluted areas which suffer the toll of industrialization. Poor air quality has led to high rates of asthma in children and is already suffering from the radioactive soil due to a nearby power plant.


 

Dallas - Blue Star recycling opened a asphalt recycling center in a predominantly black town. The community now faces industrial burdens such as illegal dumping and lead contamination in the air.

Community Service

It is so easy to fall into a pattern of apathy as we go through our lives. Our organization was also born out of a commitment to stop passing over the real issues of society, and deal with them head-on. The problems of the world are ever-growing, so we as a community must strengthen them as well. The Green Hand is here to help, and we believe that change is possible when we put our hearts and minds into it.
